Anyway we can go to head to head points and not categories? It just seems better all around.

Its possible. I think it would be best to keep it this way for another season. But we can discuss this and set up the scoring for a possible change.
What are your suggestions? I have never done a league with this scoring.
I would like other owners to comment on this too. This affects everyone in the league and I wouldn't want to change something drastic if I didn't know everyones opinion.

It would be a great way to bring errors back as a negative point category. Kinda like strikeouts.
I also think it's too radical a change for this season, though I'm personally not offended by the idea. I'm admittedly new to the league, so I don't have any emotional attachment to the way things were done last year, and don't have a points league among the leagues I'm in.

I prefer categories over h2h points. Over both I'd probably prefer a straight roto league, less variability. If majority rules in favour of changes I'd say at least don't make them this year, as settings / categories should govern the way we are drafting. just my $0.02.

I like the simple and straight forward nature of our current scoring system. Awarding points based on certain stats seems too sabermetricsy to me. How do you put a point award on wins or saves? Why should one be more than the other, or not? How do you quantify a hold? A guy comes in and pitches to one batter and gets a hold if he retires him, so give him 3 pts? I get a HR should equal 4 pts and a Triple equal 3 pts, but triples are much harder to come by, in theory they should count more right?...but how much?
I would vote no this year, next year and would have voted no even before we started the league.

I don't think a re-draft is needed. Most of the players on our teams are there because of what we are looking for. Maybe the depth of the draft is what might make a difference by changing the scoring. We couldn't get a draft done this year anyway. Its taken 14 days just to do 55 picks. There is 16 days left before opening day.
I need to see a good point scoring system to implement this. Yahoo doesn't have a default scoring. I have looked at several point leagues there but there really doesn't seem to be a standard scoring that most are using. I would want a balance so hitters aren't better than pitchers and vise versa. A 20 team league can't be heavy in 1 area. A balance is needed to be competitive. I'm still researching the topic.
At the end of last season, I asked everyone to check into the message board and discuss items of concern. A "League Meeting". Only a couple people showed. A couple items were mentioned but nothing was discussed. Those things mentioned, I asked to elaborate and I received no comment. We can have "league meetings" in the spring if that's better but I will not make changes 2 weeks prior to the season starting.
Here is an option for the league. 1. Nick and I only can make and enforce rules. 2. We can take the suggestion of the whole league, have a vote, and take a 66% to 75% vote to pass a change. (51% doesn't work for me because that leaves half the league unhappy. I'm not replacing 9 out of 20 owners) 3. I could assign a rules committee of...lets say 6 owners....to vote on changes.

An example if what I was saying on the yahoo board...I have several pitchers that I have strictly for holds, but in the point system these pitchers would be drastically devalued compared to closers. Same goes for guys go get 200 hits vs guys who get 40 HR. you would definitely want the home run hitter in a points league because HR are so much more valuable.
I like a points system league, I just didn't draft my team based on that system. And when you can only replace 5 guys a year with prospects and bottom feeders you're team will never get out of the dumps.

But it goes back to the points for each stat. HR guys strike out more. How many points would a hold get? I'm looking for balance in the league scoring. I wouldn't want to change just to change.
I am interested in a points system. I just need to find out a good competitive balance. With 20 teams, we can't all load up on 40 HR hitters. Ichiro needs to be as valuable as Granderson. Maybe not the best example but Adam Dunn, just because he can hit 50 HRs shouldn't be the best player.

I like a points system but not for this year. I have categories covered right now. I would do things differently if it were points based.
