What suggestions does anyone have for the new league? 1) I would like to have around 20 teams. 2) 27 man roster with 3 DL, keep 22 and have a 5 round draft every year. 3) Head to Head 4) scoring catagories? Batting: R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, TB, Fielding %, maybe something else (OPS?). Pitching: W, L, SV, ERA, Ks, WHIP, Holds, maybe something else (HR allowed?). 5) Inning per week minimum. 40 IP 6) Draft - I want to do a draft here on the message board with a time limit. 7) 8 teams make Playoffs starting Week 22, 23, 24 8) Off-season: No free agency in the off-season. Trades is ok. Trading draft picks are good

As far as roster size goes are you thinking 25 man roster that expands to 30 in the offseason, because I'm a little confused.

Don't know if its a possibility but will we have anything like physically unable to perform roster spots?

I'm thinking a 30 man roster. Cut 5 players or keep 25. And then do a 5 round draft after. It would allow a fair way for new players to be aquired. And new players I mean, foreign players or hot rookies, or draft another player

There will be a disabled list. No PUP list like football

Yeah thats what I mean just roster spots for disabled players who we don't want to drop because of an injury. How many of those spots are we gonna be looking at since we will have a 25 man roster?

Probably 3. I need to see what Yahoo will allow for rosters. If I remember right, I think Yahoo combines active roster and the disabled list and also has a max on players of 30. If thats the case, I may just set it up as 30 players. Or I could do 27 players and 3 disabled list. I need to see what they will allow.

Yahoo has an active roster limit, DL players do not count toward that number. So you can have a 27 player roster with 3 DL spots.
Also what would the lineup consist of? C,1B,2B,SS,3B,3-OF,UTL? I liked having specific OF positions (LF, CF, RF). Also pitching lineup? I tend to like 3 SP slots with 5-7 P slots and 2 RP slots. Or make it simple and have 5 SP and 5 RP slots?
I'm also wondering how a deep league would effect fielding a full starting lineup each week.

1 more point of clarification/suggestion.... maybe we have a waiver pick up deadline say the last week of the regular fantasy season, prior to fantasy playoffs. Then hold a draft sometime in spring training to allow acquisitions of current free agents, weather they be top prospects, veterans or newly acquired foreign players like you said.

I'm thinking just 3 OF instead of LF, CF, RF. It might make lineups a little easier. I do like the separate OF spots though.
What minimum IP did you use last year? I think it worked out good.
I'm good with 27 players and 3 DL

For the yearly draft, should there be an option to A) cut players and draft, B) just keep your roster and not participate in the draft, and C) cut less than 5 and draft the players that opened up?

With that big a roster I think Option A will allow a decent draft every year.

I think the rule that was on the site are pretty good. #1. Rosters must be cut down to 22 in order to be part of the 5 round draft. #2. Keep your roster as is and don't draft. #3. Cut less than 5 players but you miss on the higher round. If you cut 4 your draft starts in the 2nd round. If you cut 3 your draft starts in the 3rd round. Etc. Owners can choose up to 5 players to cut and draft accordingly.
I like having LF, CF, RF over 3 OFs, but I'm fine either way. I also prefer NSB and NSV over SB and SV, so people are penalized for BS and CS. Otherwise, stat categories look good, but GIDP might be something to consider on both the batting and pitching side. DPs are just a huge gamechanger.

Net Saves and Net Stolen bases sound good. I was looking at Blown Saves but didn't opt for it. The Net will catch it all.

I lke the way the off-season is set up in this league, and I like the scoring cats, I always wanted some negative cats for players who hit well but play terrible defense. I would prefer LF,CF,RF over 3 ofs requires owner to be more selective. Also I think he number of pitchers in the starting lineup should be equal to offense players as to not put an empasis on eitrher side.
Kirk, I love the offseason draft and stuff the way you have it set up, however, this first intial 27 player draft should be done through structured website with availble players in a list. We can do the 5 player drafs in the future on the message boards.
Also, can draft picks be traded in future drafts? Can IR/DL players be traded and what would be the rule as to where they are suposed to be allicated (i,.e. from DL to DL or Dl to active)? Once a player is placed on the DL can the be activated during the regular season? What are the requirements for placing a player on the DL?
Lastley, how are trades approved? Are dump trades allowed to say move 5 average players for one supper star for a playoff run?
I know I am a pain..lol

I like the LF, CF, RF over the 3 OF but I wanted to keep it simple. There are some newer owners in the league.
Draft: Is there a structured website with a player list? Yahoo has a draft area but I believe the time limit is 2 or 3 minutes. I don't want to Auto draft my team. 20 teams, 27 players per team, is 540 players. I figured a slow draft on the message board would be the best. If anyone knows of a site that allows a slow draft, please let me know.
Trades: Draft picks can be traded. As long as valid rosters are maintained. DL players can be traded too. DL players need to be on the actual DL in MLB to be on the list. When they come off the list, they will need to be activated. They don't have to remain on the DL list.
Trades are done between owners. I watch my league closely and monitor everything. I will allow most trades. If the league has a problem with a trade, I will make a call. If it becomes a problem, I may elect a trade committee. I've been Commishing for a long time and I know owners like to test the rules. I treat everyone fair. I have no favorites and a good memory. If I can't remember, I also take notes.

A few things:
Statswise, I think we should have: Batting: R, HR, RBI, SB, TB, WALKS, AVG Pitching: W, L, SV, HOLDS, Ks, ERA, WHIP
For the draft, I really think we should hold it on Yahoo, with the regular time limit for picks. With 20 people drafting, we have enough time between picks to be ready.
How do we do trades during the off-season? On here?

Bluejayfaithful, I like your stats categories, but I love the slow draft idea. Checking in throughout the day each day to see what players have been picked is a lot of fun. A long drawn out draft will bridge the gap quite nicely for me between fantasy football and fantasy baseball!

With a name like Gold Gloves, you have to have Fielding % in the stat column. It just wouldn't be right. At least Errors.
I do like a slow draft. It allows for trades to be made. It can be fun and also frustrating. Lol
Off-season trades will be done on the message board here.

I do like fielding % also.
I think the draft has to be a slow draft. The chances that all twenty of us are able to do a live draft at the same time are very slim. When does the draft order/draft starting date get announced? As for a site that allows a slow draft, I don't think I've ever heard of one, I've always done slow drafts on message boards which forces managers to keep up and do their research.

I just finished getting everyones emails together last night. I found a website that sends everyone a draft order from a randomizer. I plan to have it out by this weekend.

I know it is a H2H league but is it rotary scoring or point scoring? If Point scoring what is the scoring structure as I have software to plug these numbers into?

The reason why I was thinking it wasn't a good idea because there would be a large chance of missing your pick, but with the 12 hour limit that I forgot about it'll work well. Nevermind! Is there gonna be some way of tracking the players that have been drafted apart from writing them all down?

I am hoping that the Yahoo site will be up so I can update rosters as we go. I will try to put a list on here and update it. I printed off a list already so I can keep track.

What happens when someone selects a player that is not yet in the yahoo list? You know it will happen.

Question: Is there going to be a per week cap for player adds? I think the Yahoo one is 6, but that always seems to low.

Same day waiver wire Reward good hitting and good pitching as well negative points for bad hitting and bad pitching and no cap on plate appearances or innings pitched. Don't over complicate the scoring
