Per request, here is a poll for the skipped pick rule. Please vote. The 12 hour clock starts on Sunday

So Kirk the last pick was at 1:14 PM, if Brad doesn't make a pick before 1:14 AM, his pick is skipped correct? I'm just wondering if there is any leeway timewise for picks.

12 hours is 12 hours. Now, if they make a pick before I wake up or am able to check in....then good for them. Nick will be my co-commish. Hopefully we don't have too many skipped picks. We have all done drafts before. Leave your pick with someone if you won't be around. Lets keep it moving

I know the time limit is set to 6 hours? Because at this pace we won't be done till the first day of the regular season. I think that's more than a reasonable amount of time. Just sayin.

I agree but the only problem would be, what if someone is up late and makes their pick at 1 am and then the next person in line doesn't wake up until 8? There has to be some exceptions to the rule in that sense

6 hours is in no way a reasonable amount of time I sleep longer than 6 hours on good days and most people work at least 8 hour days

In past drafts, I've done things such as you have 8 hours to pick, not including 12am to 8am. Another method was that we were assigned time slots, so that in the beginning of a round, each of us were given a four hour time slot. That way, we know the exact time that our pick would be up and we could ask someone to pick for us if we knew we weren't going to be around for the pick. It actually worked pretty well.
Just some suggestions.

I think the time slot rule is a great one! Everyone can have a one hour window, and that would guarantee a round a day!

I don't mean to rush everyone or anything, but we really do have to find a way to pick things up. We've gotten through 4 rounds in 2 weeks with about 6 weeks to go before the season starts. At this rate, we will only get through 16 out of our 27 rounds by opening day.
We have 23 rounds left to draft, meaning 460 players and about 40 days left to go. Do the math, it means there should be at least 11 picks made every day if we want to get done on time. For us, 11 picks would only get done on a really good day. I am honestly concerned, especially since the early rounds usually go a lot faster than the later rounds.
We really need to find a way to speed things up. Maybe use the time slot draft or pick out a weekend in March where everyone sits in front of a computer for a few hours so we can get this done.

I agree with the last part at this point, but it does not work unless everyone is on the computer at the same time. I my self will going to my daughters Area championship basketball game friday & saturday. If we where to pick a time on Sunday afternoon say from 2:00 to 6:00 and commit to draft 3 rounds with auto/proxy picks for those missing. Say we gauentee rounds 6-9 are completed by the end of this time and if you can not be online submit a list to the commish/friend and have a choice made for you. This would basically allow for like a 4 min clock to finish 60 picks. 1st pick in round 10 goes back to the 12 hour clock unless some want to remain online and work some more. We do this each week until the draft is complete.

I agree I wouldn't be able to do the draft then but a set list of auto picks I can make.

Why not have each of us fill out a priority list, say 15 players, in the order we want to draft them and use a proxy. You could then change the time limit to 6 hours. Would this work? At this pace this league is not going to happen...I am excited about this league but have fears of it not finishing....just my thoughts. Mac Daddy

I have been asking/suggesting for owners to leave a short list with somebody but not too many have done this. Kenny left me a list Tuesday night and I made 2 picks for him from it yesturday

I'll take time out of a day to do the draft, I'm definitely not doing auto picks for mine.

Ok, I have a suggestion for the issue with the draft taking too long... here goes.
Switch the timer to a 5 hour time limit. The clock does not run between 12am and 5am, 7 days a week. The draft order has not and will not change! So if you know your pick is within the next 5 you may want to contact Kirk or Nick or one of the several other people who are on here countless times a day and give them a top 3 of who you would want with your pick.
We all have lives and we all understand that, but there is no reason that you can't check this before work/school/bed and see how far you are from your next pick. And like I said, if you are within 4 or 5 of your next pick, you may want to send out a top 3 to someone.
Given the fact that overnight does not count against you there is no reason that anyone needs more than 5 hours to make their pick. I enjoy this draft and I don't mind each person taking a couple hours if need be, its when nothing happens for 10 or 12 hours that it becomes irritating.
So this is simply a suggestion to the commish, because after all, he is the one running the league and I don't want to step on his toes...I just want to move on with the draft. And feel free to tweak my suggestion.
