I have read all your opinions and here is what I am going to do. At first I thought just completely skip the pick and the owner could make it when he gets back to the board but what if they just disappear? For a good league we need competitive teams. So I agree with making a pick.
If a pick is not made in time, a player will be picked for that team using the highest ranking player off of our Player List for the position that has not been filled per Starting Lineup qualifications starting with: C, then 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, SP, and RP. If Starting Lineup has been filled, the highest ranking player will be used. Too many picks skipped, the owner will be subject for removal from the league.

Sounds good but how long do they get currently (before Feb 12) to make a pick before it's skipped?

right now we are going just like we are. Feb. 12th I will be enforcing this.
12 hours is the time limit. It should be plenty of time. Get a buddy to make your pick if you won't be around and your pick is coming up. Some of us work long days. I work 10 hours. Be courtious

Frankly I think that the pick should be skipped until at least the end of the round. The owner is basically wasting everybody's time to get their job done for them under this format.

End of the round MAYBE but skipping their pick altogether isn't fair. It will make for an uncompetitive league.

Well thats why I think they should be skipped until the end of the round and if they dont respond by that point then they obviously need to be replaced.

i don't think we should be so hasty just yet. our league is just beginning. we need time to filter through our team owners and see who really belongs here. there may still be changes. eventually we'll settle in with a group that we can all be happy with. it takes time. in the meantime, we shouldn't be punishing a team owner who in 2-3 weeks time, may not be with us anymore. otherwise, we'll actually be punishing the replacement owner.

Are we expecting a large turn over of managers? Let's keep in mind that this league has not "officially" started, but once it does, how do we deal with the 12 hour rule for selections? I guess I don't understand why someone would join a league that does not have the time to take an active part in all the league expects....I am not for picking the next best player...I think they should just be skipped until they log on and take a real part in this. 12 hours between picks is a very long time...I realize that on Sunday the picks should speed up but it only take one person to bring everything to a halt....selecting for them may actually benefit them...as for repalcement managers, you see what you are getting before you sign on...if necessary, just drop a team...not trying to cause trouble, just giving thoughts....keep in mind, this is the beginning, there are always questions to be answered whenever you start something new....welcome to life....

i think overall there is too much negativity here. are we here to have fun or just clog our egos with more junk? i think the best thing to do at this time is to give the very best player available and also give our blessings with the pick. believe me, it will come back to us in a positive way.

Well, I think the main problem is that everyone is worried the team won't last if we have managers who do not show much interest at this level.
I'm fine with the new skipped pick rule.

Powerman I hate to say it that philosophy predicts you as a bottom feeder in the league lol. The guys who get skipped should go to the end of the round at the very least because otherwise they could just skip half the draft and get a better team than they could draft for themselves.

In fantasy baseball, a lot of really high ranked guys end up sucking and a lot of low ranked guys end up being great. This isn't even up for discussion anyway because Kirk already made the rules.

i'll pick last every round if that pleases people, and i'll still win this league.

Just to confirm, if someone misses their pick, Kirk is going to pick the next best available player at whatever position in undrafted? Is it 12 hrs from the last pick posted? Also, Kirk, are you going to post this pick immediately after the 12 hr deadline has passed, because what if that person signs in and makes their pick after the deadline but before you could post their pick?
I'll roll with the punches regardless of how things are done, but being as how this is a league that 20 different people are playing in, I think we the managers should have SOME say in how the league we are in is played. I think this rule should be put to a vote (IMHO) since there is a poll option and whatever is decided upon by noon 2/12/12 (or whenever the official draft starts) is what rule we use for this. I know that no one "plans" to miss a pick, but it could happen to anybody's team, especially if someone makes their pick at 11 at night on a Friday. That means the next guy has to make his pick before 11 am Saturday morning, and this draft may not be the first thing on someones mind at 11 am Saturday morning. Just sayin.
It seems like there are 4 different options, either Kirk picks and thats final, or the person is skipped till the end of the round and gets to make their pick, or the person is skipped till they log in and make their pick, or lastly, they are skipped until the end of the entire draft.
Like I said, doesn't matter too much to me, but I don't want someone dropping because they got skipped and didn't have fair say in what the rule was.

Not a bad idea this rule does seem to have some debate so maybe there should be somewhat of a vote on it. Seeing as we don't start until Sunday that time could be used to create a simple vote on the options.

Only plus I can see of having a wrap around in this draft is having potentially 24 hours to make my pick(s)
